With the recent death of James Thurber’s only child (Rosemary ‘Rosie’ Adams Thurber, October 7, 1931-June 8, 2026), it seemed a good opportunity to see what’s become of the old man’s work. Over the eight-week course, the class will observe and discuss film adaptations of Thurber’s stories and discuss distortion, correction, and preservation of classic literature by one of America’s foremost writers of the 20th century. James Thurber (1894-1961) was an author, playwright, journalist, cartoonist, and humorist.
