Serving Alcohol at Your Event

A liquor license may be granted only for nonprofit fundraising rentals. Liquor licenses are not available for general room rentals.

Nonprofit organizations interested in serving alcohol at a fundraising event must complete the following steps:

  1. Apply for a one-day liquor license through the Select Board Office. There is no charge for this application.
  2. Obtain at least $1 million in general liability insurance for use of Town property.
  3. Obtain at least $1 million in liquor liability insurance. If a private caterer manages the event and already carries liquor liability insurance, the nonprofit may not need a separate policy.
  4. Submit certificates of insurance for both general liability and liquor liability to the Select Board Office prior to the event.
  5. Ensure that all bartenders working the event are TIPS certified.
  6. Receive approval from Police, Fire, and Inspectional Services. The Select Board must review all requests and issue the license before the event may take place.

Please allow three to four weeks for the liquor license process. If alcohol will be served at your event, contact the Select Board Office as early as possible.

⚠ Holding an event with alcohol without the proper license can result in serious legal consequences for the individuals involved.
